Plans for a new petrol station on Kilmarnock Road in Mauchline have been approved despite local traffic concerns and objections.
Mauchline: The planning committee has approved a new petrol station on Kilmarnock Road. Members recommended moving forward with the proposal despite some local objections.
The application was submitted last April. Concerns were raised about traffic and road safety. Transport Scotland suggested that the plans should only go ahead if safety measures are in place.
These measures include a signalised crossing on the A76 near the station. At the recent planning meeting, traffic issues were discussed again.
Councillor Peter Mabon expressed his worries about speeding traffic. He noted that local officials have been trying to slow down traffic on this road for years.
He mentioned that cars often speed through Mauchline, especially coming over the hill. He wants more information on when changes will happen to improve safety.
Transport Scotland plans to extend the 30mph speed limit at the northern entrance to Mauchline. However, this change has not yet occurred, raising further concerns.
Councillor William Lennox also highlighted ongoing speeding issues in Mauchline. He believes that Transport Scotland is aware of the situation and will implement necessary measures soon.
The petrol station and shop have received approval. Councillor McGhee hopes the new crossing will help slow down traffic, but it will only activate when someone pushes the button.
There were also concerns about drainage and noise for nearby residents. Councillor Lennox proposed limiting jet wash hours to 9am-6pm on Sundays and holidays, which was unanimously approved.
Additionally, Craigknowe House will get a new access point on the A76 due to the current access being affected by the petrol station plans.
