Glasgow: It’s been a wild ride for Naomi and Amelia, the duo behind Quad90. They’ve had a fantastic 18 months, dropping singles and playing gigs that have really put them on the map.

Now, they’re gearing up for what might be their biggest moment yet. They’ll be opening for the BMX Bandits at Celtic Connections, one of the coolest music festivals around. It’s happening at a top-notch venue, and they can hardly contain their excitement.

Naomi, who hails from Cambuslang, shared how thrilled they are about this opportunity. “We’ve had a great year, and now we get to support BMX Bandits!” she said, beaming.

The two met while studying at Riverside College in Busby and formed Quad90. Their singles have been making waves, with one even named one of the best Scottish singles of 2023. They’re on a respected label, Last Night From Glasgow, which is pretty impressive.

Naomi mentioned that their sound is influenced by disco legends like Blondie and Chic. Plus, they’re working on their debut album, which is set to drop later this year. “We’re really excited about that too,” she added.

They’ve got some talented musicians joining them on the album, including Amelia’s dad, who’s a well-known figure in the Scottish music scene. It’s a mix of experience and fresh talent, and they feel lucky to collaborate with such great artists.

The BMX Bandits will be performing their acclaimed album, “Dreamers on the Run,” along with some classic hits. For Naomi and Amelia, supporting such a legendary band is a big deal, especially since they’ve only been performing live for less than a year.

Reflecting on their journey, Naomi laughed about how nervous they were at their first gig. “We were fine singing, but talking between songs was a whole different story!” Now, they’re feeling more confident and ready to take the stage.

Naomi also plays with another band, Youth for Sale, which is performing at King Tut’s New Year’s Revolution. “It’s a busy time, but I love it,” she said. “Doing this with Amelia, my best friend, makes it even more special.”

For now, they’re balancing music with their day jobs, but they’re hopeful that one day, music will be their full-time gig. “Music’s the dream, always,” Naomi said with a smile.

Quad90 will be opening for BMX Bandits on January 29 at Saint Luke’s. If you’re interested, some tickets are still available on the Celtic Connections website.
