Millwall’s coach praises young talent Bangura-Williams but stresses that player development takes time and isn’t an instant process
London: Alex Neil, the Millwall head coach, recently shared his thoughts on developing young players. He’s been really impressed with Ra’ees Bangura-Williams, especially after his recent performances.
Bangura-Williams, just 20, made quite the entrance by scoring a fantastic goal in the FA Cup against Dagenham & Redbridge. He also got to play in his first Championship match as a sub in a tough game against Hull City.
Neil said, “He was good.” He noted how Bangura-Williams handled the ball well and contributed to the team’s attack. It’s clear he’s making strides in his development.
Neil feels that physically, Bangura-Williams can handle the Championship level. Before Tuesday, he hadn’t played a first-team game for Millwall, so his progress has been impressive.
He added, “It takes time to develop young players. You don’t just wake up one day and find they’re all ready to go.” Neil pointed out that Sunderland, now thriving in the Championship, took years to build their squad.
