A mini-tornado wreaked havoc in Quintrell Downs, leaving residents shocked and causing significant damage to homes and caravans
Quintrell Downs: A mini-tornado hit this Cornish resort town on Thursday, and it was quite the sight. People were stunned as the winds picked up and debris flew everywhere.
Footage from mobile phones showed the chaos on a residential street. Rubbish was swirling around, smashing into houses and cars. It was wild! Caravans at a nearby holiday park were flipped over, looking like they’d been tossed around like toys.
Residents in Newquay were sharing photos of their damaged roofs and walls. It was a real mess. This all happened just before a yellow wind warning was issued for the area as Storm Eowyn approached.
Cheryl Foers, a local, described it as a freak occurrence. She said everything was swirling in the air, from plant pots to debris. One moment it was a light breeze, and then bam! A tornado came out of nowhere, uprooting trees and causing havoc in just seconds.
She mentioned that there were at least seven or eight roofs that were nearly gone, and it was dangerous. The tornado just zipped off across the fields after its rampage.
Trevornick Holiday Park reported some damage in a small area and said they were starting a clean-up. Videos showed the park littered with debris and flipped caravans. The winds hit between 9:30 and 9:45 AM GMT, according to weather maps.
A spokesperson from the park expressed disbelief, saying, “Yes really, we still can’t quite believe it either.” Tornadoes are rare in the UK, with about 30 reported each year, but they can cause serious damage.
