Chepstow: Monmouthshire MP Catherine Fookes and Forest of Dean MP Matt Bishop are addressing traffic issues. They met with Roads Minister Lilian Greenwood to discuss solutions.

Fookes listens to Monmouthshire residents and shares their concerns with the government. She highlighted traffic congestion as a major issue for Chepstow.

A lot of traffic in Chepstow comes from the Forest of Dean. Fookes believes a bypass might just shift the problem elsewhere. She suggests a third Severn crossing between Lydney and Sharpness could help.

Fookes is committed to pushing the government for action on this matter. After the meeting, Bishop noted that traffic congestion has been a long-standing problem in the Forest of Dean.

Talks about a Chepstow bypass have been ongoing since the 1980s, but progress has been slow. Bishop is determined to drive change and appreciates Greenwood’s willingness to consider their proposals.

He wants the Forest of Dean to grow sustainably, with better jobs and education access. He encourages local councils to collaborate on finding the best solutions.

Besides the bridge proposal, Bishop plans to write to both Monmouthshire and Gloucestershire councils. He wants them to examine cross-border traffic and improve rail services between Lydney and Bristol.

He also aims to address the rising number of potholes in the area. Gloucestershire County Council will receive £35.3 million to tackle potholes as part of a national campaign.
