Cockenzie: Exciting news for kids! The VoiceBox 2025 competition just kicked off at Cockenzie Primary School. This event is all about celebrating how important communication is for children.

Last year’s winner, Gordon Moodie, set the bar high with his hilarious joke: “Why did the donkey go to the shops? Cause he had hee haw in the hoose!”

Now, schools all over Scotland are gearing up to find the best young joke-teller. Applications are open until April 1, so there’s still time to join in the fun!

On the first day, schools will pick their top entries to send to the finals. Glenn Carter from RCSLT Scotland shared how this competition brings kids together through laughter and helps them develop vital communication skills.

He emphasized that speech and language therapy is essential, not just a luxury. It can lead to better education and job opportunities, which is super important.

The grand final is set for June 5 at the Scottish Parliament, where finalists from all over Scotland will gather. It’ll be hosted by the Presiding Officer and a comedian, making it a fun event!

Winners will snag some awesome prizes, including book vouchers for their schools. It’s a great way to encourage creativity and confidence in kids while having a blast.

Councillor Fiona Dugdale was thrilled to be part of the launch and praised the kids for their enthusiasm. She believes good communication skills are key to success in life, and this competition is a fantastic way to highlight that.
