Hampshire: The National Trust is on a mission to plant new woodlands, and it’s pretty exciting! They’re teaming up with England’s Community Forests to make this happen.

Thanks to a £7.1 million boost from the Nature for Climate Fund, they’re set to plant nearly 416,000 trees across England. That’s like covering over 800 football pitches with greenery!

These new woodlands will not only help tackle climate change but also create lovely spaces for folks to enjoy. Imagine walking through beautiful woods right near your town!

One of the biggest projects is happening in Sefton, Merseyside, where they’re planting 78 hectares with almost 93,000 trees. That land was just bought from the council, so it’s all fresh and new.

John Deakin from the National Trust mentioned how trees are key to locking up carbon and fighting climate change. It’s all about working together for the planet!

In Devon, they’re planting over 30,000 trees at Buckland Abbey, and in Gloucestershire, they’re teaming up with a tenant to plant 53,000 trees at Sherborne Farm.

Paul Nolan from England’s Community Forests is thrilled about this partnership. He believes increasing tree cover is essential for our health and adapting to climate changes.

Last year was a big win for tree planting in England, with a 52% increase in new woodlands. They’re making great strides toward the goal of 16.5% tree cover by 2050.

All of this is part of a larger plan to plant 20 million trees by 2030. It’s a fantastic step for nature and our communities!
