New bus stops are coming to Stamford, including one at Cattlemarket car park, enhancing access to the train station for passengers.
Stamford: Rail passengers will soon have a bus stop near the train station. The new stop will be located in the Cattlemarket car park.
Councillor Richard Cleaver mentioned that buses should arrive before trains and leave after. However, a mistake during nearby house construction left no turning circle for buses.
Cleaver had to give up on a bus stop right outside the station. Still, he hopes the Cattlemarket stop will help public transport users.
This bus stop is part of improvement works at Cattlemarket car park. The project will expand onto a nearby brownfield site.
More than 140 new parking bays will be added, including accessible spaces and electric vehicle charging spots. The entrance road will be widened to accommodate buses.
The Cattlemarket bus stop will open once the work is complete or when the timetable changes.
Lincolnshire County Council has also added new bus stops across town. These will be part of the 182 Stamford town service.
New stops include locations like Caithness Road, Perth Road, and many more. This expansion aims to improve public transport awareness.
Cleaver noted that many people were unaware of the new service until they saw the stops. He appreciates the commitment to public transport.
The ‘town hopper’ service was expanded last year to connect homes with town facilities better. More bus routes may come if the Stamford North development gets approval.
Developer GummerLeathes plans to subsidize a bus service linking its new estate with the town center.
