A transport plan to boost walking, wheeling, and cycling in Dudley, Sandwell, Walsall, and Wolverhampton is under consideration, including new paths.
The plan will encourage alternative travel. Dudley, Sandwell, Walsall, and Wolverhampton made it. They want more people to walk, wheel, and cycle.
The plan includes new paths. It lists nine cycling routes for the borough, and three main walking areas are also noted.
Cycle routes include Himley to Stourbridge, Brierley Hill to Cradley Heath, plus Dudley to Cradley Heath. More routes: Pensnett to Dudley, and Pensnett to Upper Gornal, Smestow Valley Leisure Route, and A458 to Woodgate Valley. Finally, Stourbridge to Halesowen, and Hagley to M5 Junction 3.
Walking areas are in the DY5 Enterprise Zone and Brierley Hill. Another is at Stourbridge Interchange and town center. Kingswinford is also a core walking zone.
Most people support a walking and cycling network. A survey showed 86% agree it’s valuable, and funding is expected from external grants.
Approval integrates the plan into Dudley’s Local Plan. This plan guides development for the next 15 years. Reducing carbon emissions is a goal.
Greener travel helps reach net zero by 2041. Cycling and walking can cut congestion and help air quality.
The meeting is on February 12. It will be in Committee Room 2 at Dudley Council House, and the public can attend.
