Oxfordshire County Council announces new timeline for A40 slip roads project, aiming to ease traffic congestion and improve air quality.
The speed limit will start on February 10, 2025. The construction is expected to finish by September 17, 2026.
Originally, the work was set to begin in September. However, it faced delays due to land negotiations and a compulsory purchase order. A new start date was pushed to November.
There was confusion when a traffic closure order for 2024 was canceled. At one point, a 2026 start date was mistakenly announced before a council meeting.
The new slip roads will help traffic access the westbound A40 without going through the town center. This will reduce congestion and improve air quality in Witney, especially at Bridge Street.
The project will also enhance walking and cycling links in the Shores Green area, connecting South Leigh and the A40. It will support new developments in East and North Witney, which plan to add up to 4,702 new homes.
