Lymm Heritage Centre launches a free exhibition on Bridgewater Canal breaches, exploring its history and future.
Lymm: The Lymm Heritage Centre is opening a new exhibition about the Bridgewater Canal breaches. This event starts tomorrow at noon and will continue for an undetermined time.
The Bridgewater Canal is important to Lymm’s history. It was once a busy route for commercial traffic.
The exhibition, titled “Breach,” will explore the canal’s history and the recent flooding events. It will also discuss how climate change affects the canal.
Recently, flooding hit Warrington hard, forcing many residents to evacuate. The canal breached near Dunham Massey, marking the first breach in over 50 years.
This isn’t the first time the canal has faced issues. It breached in 1971, causing significant damage and leaving a six-mile stretch nearly empty.
After emergency repairs, it took two years and £250,000 to fix the canal. The new exhibition is free and open Thursday to Sunday from noon to 4 PM.
