Exciting new murals by local students are brightening up Yorkshire Street, showcasing their talent and revitalizing the community.
Students from Brian Clarke Church of England Academy got to show off their creativity through this project, which was organized by their Head of Art, James Cox. They’ve painted a series of small murals that add a splash of color and energy to the area.
Thanks to some government funding and the help of GRIT Studios, they found an artist who works with community groups to create these awesome murals. Councillor Peter Dean couldn’t be happier, saying it’s great to see the high street come alive with this art.
He also gave a shout-out to the students for their hard work. It’s a proud moment for them, and it really shows what young people can achieve. A smaller group even got to work closely with a professional artist named Oskar, learning the ropes of mural painting.
They spent a whole day diving into the creative process, turning their designs into real-life murals. This hands-on experience was a great way for them to learn about public art and what it takes to be a professional artist.
James, who’s been a driving force behind the project, said the murals give students a sense of pride. It’s a lasting contribution to their community that highlights their talent. Plus, it helps them feel more connected to Oldham, making them see it as a place they’ve helped shape.
This project isn’t just about art; it’s about nurturing young talent and celebrating the diversity that makes Oldham special. It’s a beautiful reminder of how art can inspire personal growth and community pride.
