The Skelton Grange incinerator is now in its commissioning phase, set to generate renewable energy for over 100,000 homes
Leeds: The new energy-from-waste plant at Skelton Grange is making strides as it enters the commissioning stage. This facility is set to process a whopping 410,000 tonnes of commercial waste each year.
Once it’s up and running, it’ll generate around 49MW of renewable electricity annually. That’s enough to power more than 100,000 homes! Pretty impressive, right?
During this commissioning phase, you might notice some steam coming from the plant. They’re doing steam blowing, which helps clean the boilers and pipes. It’s all part of the process and nothing to worry about.
The operators, enfinium, plan to do this steam blowing in the early mornings and late afternoons, and it’ll last about 30 minutes each time. They’re following all the safety protocols, so everything’s above board.
Meanwhile, there’s also some work happening on the Skelton Grange Road bridge. They’re making it more accessible with wider stairs and ramps for the Trans-Pennine cycle route and footpath. It’s all about making things better for everyone!
