Check out the latest data on Newham’s primary schools, highlighting the best and worst performers in reading and maths scores
Newham: The latest data on primary schools in Newham is out, and it’s pretty interesting. It looks at how well kids are doing in reading and maths, plus other important stuff like how many meet the expected standards.
Now, they didn’t include special schools in this report, so keep that in mind. The top spot goes to Tollgate Primary School in Plaistow, where an impressive 95% of students hit the expected standards. Even better, 36% of them scored higher than that!
When it comes to reading and maths scores, Tollgate averaged 112 and 111, respectively. For context, anything above 100 is considered the expected standard, and over 109 is seen as a higher standard.
Cleves Primary School in Upton Park came in second, with 93% of its pupils meeting the expected standards. They scored 113 in reading and 112 in maths, which is pretty stellar.
St Anthony’s Catholic Primary School in Forest Gate had the highest percentage of students achieving at a higher level, with 41%. They ranked fifth overall, which is quite commendable.
On the flip side, William Davies Primary School in Forest Gate was at the bottom of the list. Only 50% of its students met the expected standards, and just 4% scored higher. Their average scores were 101 for reading and 103 for maths, which, while low for the borough, still beat national standards.
Upton Cross Primary School wasn’t far behind, with only 53% meeting the expected standards and just 1% achieving at a higher level. It’s clear there’s a lot of room for improvement in some schools.
Overall, it’s a mixed bag for Newham’s primary schools, with some shining bright and others needing a bit of extra help.
