A beloved fish and chip shop in Newtown is going up for auction soon, marking the end of an era for local food lovers
Newtown: The former takeaway in Crescent Street is hitting the auction block at Welshpool Town Hall on February 28, with a starting price of £80,000.
After 47 years of serving up fish and chips, Gareth and Iona Muscroft closed their shop for good last August. They opened the place back in 1977.
The couple, who were proud to run the only fish and chip shop in Newtown, expressed their gratitude to loyal customers for their support over the years.
“Sadly, the time has come for us to retire and put our feet up,” they said.
The auction listing by Harry Ray & Co mentions that the sale includes everything—fixtures and fittings—so it’s a complete package.
While the property needs some TLC, it’s in a great spot, just a short walk from the town center.
The listing highlights that the property has a fish and chip shop, a prep kitchen, and a cellar on the ground floor, plus living space above with a living room, kitchen, bathroom, and three bedrooms.
Crescent Fish and Chips had a solid reputation, boasting a 4.7/5 rating from 65 Google reviews. Many customers called it a “good, old school” fish and chip shop, with some even claiming it’s the best in Newtown.
