Penygloddfa School in Newtown received high praise in its Estyn report, highlighting its nurturing environment and commitment to student success
Mrs. Harrison, who took the reins in April after 12 years at Abermule Primary, said, “We are immensely proud of the children and all the team in Penygloddfa School.” It’s clear that everyone’s hard work is paying off.
The report highlighted the school’s musical achievements and its engaging curriculum focused on Welsh culture. It also noted the strong relationships between staff and students, which is so important for a positive learning environment.
The school’s band even won the best band competition at the Urdd Eisteddfod in 2024, which is a huge deal! Hayley Hughes, Chair of the Governors, praised the staff for their dedication to providing quality education.
With 272 pupils enrolled, Penygloddfa is the largest primary school in Newtown. About one in ten students have additional learning needs, and around 15% are eligible for free school meals.
The Estyn report did suggest one area for improvement: they want teachers to create more chances for younger kids to develop independent learning skills. The school plans to put together an action plan to tackle this recommendation and keep building on their successes.
