NHS Borders is encouraging residents over 65 to get their pneumococcal vaccine to prevent serious illness and complications
But wait, there’s more! If you’re under 65 and have a medical condition or are getting treatment, you can also get the vaccine. You’ll get a letter if you’re eligible, telling you to book an appointment.
Dr. Sohail Bhatti, the public health director at NHS Borders, is really stressing how crucial this vaccine is. He mentioned that invasive pneumococcal disease can be pretty serious and even life-threatening.
Getting vaccinated not only helps if you do get sick but also lowers your chances of getting really ill. While anyone can catch it, older adults and those with long-term health issues are at a higher risk.
The vaccine is your best bet against the common types of pneumococcal bacteria. If you want to know more about the disease and the vaccine, check out the NHS inform website. It’s worth a look!
