NHS Highland to Consider Community Input as Vaccination Returns to GPs

Inverness: Big news for the Highlands! Vaccinations are going back to local GPs after a policy shift from the Scottish Government. NHS Highland is all set to listen to what the community has to say about this change.

You know, vaccinations used to be handled right in our neighborhoods. But back in 2018, things changed, and the health board took over. It’s been a bit of a mess since then, with folks struggling to get appointments and rural residents having a tough time getting to centralized sessions.

There’s been a noticeable drop in vaccination rates, too. Whooping cough cases have been climbing, and sadly, we even lost a child to it last year. That’s why local MSP Fergus Ewing has been advocating for a return to the old system, and he was thrilled when the government announced this change.

While there’s no set date for when this will happen, Health Secretary Neil Gray is planning to chat with Highland GPs to get their input on how to make this transition smooth. NHS Highland has acknowledged the challenges of the previous system and is eager to work closely with local practices and the community to ensure everyone stays informed about what’s next. It’s a step in the right direction for better healthcare in our area!
