The North Wales Metro project aims to enhance travel in Wrexham and beyond, making it easier and faster for everyone.
The Welsh Government, along with Transport for Wales and local councils, is working hard to revamp rail and bus services. They want to make walking and cycling safer and more convenient too.
Some changes are already happening. Remember the Wrexham to Liverpool train service that started in 2019? That was a step in the right direction. Plus, there are now more trains running on the Borderlands Line, which is great news for commuters.
The project is linked to a report from the North Wales Transport Commission. They’ve made some recommendations, but we’re still waiting to see what gets the green light. I recently asked Ken Skates, the Cabinet Secretary for Transport, for an update.
He assured me that making metro-style services a reality in North Wales is a top priority. We should see some plans finalized later this year, which is exciting!
The Welsh Government is also committed to boosting Transport for Wales services by 50% along the mainline by 2026. They’re focusing on improving connections in the Mersey-Dee area, especially the Borderlands line, with hopes of creating a direct metro link between Wrexham and Liverpool.
I’ll keep an eye on how things progress.
On a different note, I visited All Saints’ Primary School in Gresford recently. It was lovely meeting the Year 6 students who are heading to Singapore in March thanks to funding from Taith.
Taith is a fantastic program that helps people in Wales learn and volunteer abroad. I’m sure the kids will have an amazing time and create some unforgettable memories.
If any other schools are curious about Taith, they can find all the details online.
