A major water outage in North Wales has left thousands without service, causing chaos in local businesses and schools
Dolgarrog: A burst pipe at the Bryn Cowlyd Water Treatment Works caused a huge water outage on January 15. It left around 50,000 homes and businesses without water.
Many shops, cafes, and even council offices had to shut down. It was a real mess, with people scrambling for bottled water at supermarkets.
Most of Conwy County felt the impact, along with some areas in Denbighshire. Schools were also affected, with 39 closing due to the lack of water.
By Monday, seven schools still couldn’t open. Some even relaxed uniform rules to help families out when kids returned.
To help, water stations were set up in places like Colwyn Bay and Llandudno. But there were long lines, and it got pretty chaotic at times.
Some residents reported brown water when supplies returned. Welsh Water reassured everyone that it’s safe to drink after running the tap for a bit.
Over the weekend, most properties had their water back, but smaller bursts popped up in places like Llandudno. Residents were worried about flooding in their homes.
Welsh Water is on it, fixing the smaller leaks and helping those in need. They’re also offering compensation for the disruption, which is a relief for many.
