A prison officer in Northamptonshire faces arrest over claims of being filmed having sex with an inmate at HMP Five Wells
Apparently, the footage made its rounds among other inmates. The officer was quickly suspended and the inmate? He got moved to another prison. Talk about a scandal!
A spokesperson for the prison said they’re looking into it, but it’s a bit awkward to comment further while the investigation is ongoing. You can imagine the chaos this has caused.
HMP Five Wells is a relatively new place, having opened in 2022. It cost a whopping £253 million to build and holds around 1,700 male prisoners. Quite the setup, right?
Now, the video was supposedly filmed by the inmate during their encounter. It’s unclear if the officer even knew she was being recorded. Yikes!
This isn’t the first time something like this has happened. Earlier this year, another officer, Linda De Sousa Abreu, got into trouble for a similar situation at HMP Wandsworth. She ended up pleading guilty to misconduct.
In fact, reports say that 29 female guards have been fired for having inappropriate relationships with inmates over the last three years. It’s a serious issue that needs addressing.
