Northern has canceled a meeting to address ongoing train service problems in Blackburn
Cllr Mustafa Desa asked about updates on the Northern train service. He wanted to know the reasons behind the cancellations. He also asked if there’s a plan to fix the issues.
Cllr Riley, who is on the Transport for the North board, expressed his frustration. He said train cancellations are terrible and getting worse. He regularly sees canceled trains at Manchester Victoria, which is concerning.
He worries that Blackburn might be overlooked in favor of Manchester. Cllr Riley emphasized that the service is unacceptable. In a report, he mentioned meeting with Northern’s COO before Christmas. He raised serious concerns about frequent cancellations from Blackburn station.
Cllr Riley highlighted the importance of train services for the local economy and community. He believes the service needs government intervention. He was encouraged by Northern’s willingness to work on improvements. He has requested regular meetings to keep the issue a priority. He will continue to voice concerns at Transport for the North meetings.
