Oxford City Council has new plans for a McDonald’s and safer school routes
Oxford: Exciting updates are coming to the city. A new McDonald’s is on the way, and there are plans for safer routes to schools.

McDonald’s is applying for a late-night license at 44-46 Cornmarket Street. They want to serve food from 11 PM to midnight.
This new restaurant will replace the old Leon location. The McDonald’s near Carfax will close when this one opens.
In Jericho, Pusey Street has one-way traffic suspended for construction. This will last until July 31, 2026.
In Oxford, Sandy Lane West is seeing road closures for the Safer Routes to School project. This includes new crossings and speed bumps, expected to finish by March 28, 2025.
There will be no waiting on certain roads to allow for footway work and traffic signal installation near St John Fisher School.
Sandy Lane will close overnight from March 24 to 28 for construction. Access will still be available for residents and businesses.
Nighttime closures will also happen for speed reduction work on specific dates in March.
For traffic, alternative routes are available. Cyclists can still use the footway but must dismount.
Cherwell District Council has extended the consultation period for its new local plan. It will now be open until February 25.

On Bevington Road, five parking bays were suspended for delivery vehicles. This work is now expected to finish in December 2025.
On Osney Lane, no waiting is allowed to help construction vehicles access Cherwell House. This work is set to complete by November 28, 2025.
