Rosyth: The deadline for public comments on the housing proposals at Castlandhill just passed. The Alfred Stewart Property Foundation wants to build on over 25 hectares of farmland.

Fife Council will decide on this at a future planning committee meeting, but many locals are already against it. They’re worried about increased traffic, losing green spaces, and the impact on wildlife.

One resident, who moved nearby in December, expressed regret, saying they would have thought twice about buying their home if they had known about the development plans.

People are concerned about the noise and disruption from construction, with one saying it could make life unbearable for years. The site is near busy roads and locals fear it will strain health services and schools.

Another resident pointed out that local doctors and dental surgeries are already overwhelmed. They worry that adding 360 new homes will only worsen the situation.

Questions about where new residents will go for medical care are also being raised, especially since some local surgeries aren’t accepting new patients.

On the flip side, the charity behind the project argues it will benefit the town. They say it will help meet housing needs and address drainage issues in the area.

They plan to include affordable homes and create pedestrian and cycle routes, along with green spaces for the community. They also want to promote biodiversity with wildflower meadows and retained trees.

However, they acknowledge that they need to address traffic noise and may have to deal with archaeological concerns since the land is near a historic battle site.

If approved, they hope to start building in 2027 and finish by 2032. It’s a lot to think about for the community.
