Ørsted is looking to build a solar farm near Beverley, aiming to power 100,000 homes with renewable energy
Beverley: Ørsted is eyeing a spot three miles north of town for the Kingfisher Solar Farm. It’s set to be a big deal, with a capacity of around 320 MW, enough to power about 100,000 homes.
This company is no stranger to renewable energy, already running wind farms in the North Sea. They haven’t said exactly how much land they’ll need yet, but experts suggest it could be around 1,300 to 1,600 acres.
A spokesperson mentioned that the land requirement will depend on how consultations go. Speaking of which, they’re holding consultations from February 3 to March 9, so locals can weigh in.
There are several events lined up where folks can learn more and share their thoughts. For example, there’s one at Lockington Village Hall on February 10 and another at Beverley Memorial Hall on March 1.
Randall Linfoot, the program manager, shared that this solar farm could really help the UK meet its net-zero carbon goals by 2050. Plus, they’re planning to invest in local initiatives and create a community benefit fund.
Ørsted has been part of the Humber region for over ten years, employing more than 600 people. They’re eager to hear from the community and refine their plans based on local feedback.
