A staggering number of van drivers were caught speeding on Scotland’s A9 and A90, raising serious safety concerns.
Dunblane: Can you believe it? Over 3,000 van drivers were caught speeding on the A9 and A90 last year. That’s a lot of folks ignoring the speed limits!
On the A9, which stretches from Dunblane to Inverness, 1,174 drivers were caught speeding. The fastest was clocked at a jaw-dropping 93 mph. Yikes!
Then there’s the A90, where 2,003 vans were caught going over 60 mph. One driver was even caught going 30 mph over the limit. Talk about pushing it!
Police Scotland is really concerned about this. They say speeding is a big issue on these roads, and it’s just not safe.
Vans have lower speed limits than cars, so they shouldn’t go over 60 mph on dual carriageways and 50 mph on single-carriageways. It’s pretty straightforward.
Earlier this year, there was a major crackdown on speeding vans on the A9. One courier company even admitted their drivers often sped on that road, which is known for accidents.
Eric Dunion from Police Scotland’s Safety Camera Unit expressed disappointment over the high number of speeding vans. He mentioned that many offenders are professional drivers who should know better.
Inspector Gordon Dickson added that they regularly patrol these roads to keep everyone safe. It’s all about making the roads safer for everyone, right?
