Defendant in Oxford mosque stabbing trial claims he panicked and acted in self-defense. The victim suffered serious injuries.
Khan was at an event at the mosque. He ran back inside for help after being stabbed, suffering a bad stomach wound and his intestines were coming out. He went to the hospital for treatment.
Hussain is from Oxford and faces charges in court, including attempted murder and causing serious harm. He is also charged with possessing an imitation gun.
Two other men, Shahroz Khan and Bilal Khan, are also on trial. They are charged with conspiracy to murder and cause harm.
Hussain’s lawyer spoke in court, telling the jury his client panicked and felt trapped and had no choice. The lawyer stated Khan chased Hussain and shouted insults.
The lawyer argues that Hussain was simply defending himself because Khan pursued him. He questioned if Hussain planned to kill him, asking why Hussain ran away.
Hussain claims Khan ran into the knife and that he defended himself with it. He says he met Shahroz Khan to smoke together at the mosque, alleging Khan knew him and chased him because of a grudge.
Shahroz and Bilal Khan deny involvement, with Shahroz saying he attended an event there and Bilal Khan saying he was elsewhere. The trial is ongoing this week.
