Oxford: A new study by Locksmith Luton looked at missing pets. They used data from Animal Search UK and Pets Reunited. The goal was to find areas with the highest pet theft rates over the past year.
Oxford is 10th in the UK for missing pets. It has 6.36 reported cases for every 10,000 people. This is concerning for pet owners in the area.
Since 2019, dog thefts have jumped by 170%. Over 25,000 pets have gone missing in 2023 alone. That’s about six pets disappearing every day!
Manchester leads with the most missing pets. It has over 17 cases per 10,000 residents, totaling 236 incidents last year. Huddersfield and Warrington follow closely.
Bradford and Newcastle are also in the top five for missing pets. Blackburn, Slough, Mansfield, and Birmingham round out the top ten.
On the bright side, Dundee is the safest place for pets. It has just 1.02 reported cases per 10,000 people. Other safe cities include Swansea, Edinburgh, York, and Aberdeen.
Scottish cities are among the safest for pets. Four locations from Scotland are in the top ten low-risk areas for missing pets.
