Phil Bessant Limited has hit a fantastic milestone, raising £100,000 for St David’s Hospice Care through various fun events over the years
Newport: Phil Bessant Limited has done something pretty amazing. They’ve raised a whopping £100,000 for St David’s Hospice Care over the last ten years. That’s no small feat!
To celebrate this achievement, they threw a fun event last Friday. It was a great time to look back on all the cool activities that helped them reach this goal. Think boardroom lock-ins, events in Newport Market dungeons, wine and cheese nights, and quizzes. Sounds like a blast!
Now, a little history: the ‘Gwent Hospice Project Group’ started back in 1979, thanks to nurse tutor Heulwen Egerton at Newport’s Royal Gwent Hospital. They saw a real need for palliative care in Gwent, and that’s how St David’s Hospice Care came to be.
What began with just six patients has grown into the UK’s largest provider of hospice-at-home care. They now support over 3,400 patients and families every year, which is incredible, especially considering it costs more than £9 million annually.
Last year, they helped over 3,386 patients and families, with a significant number not even having a cancer diagnosis. It’s heartwarming to see such dedication.
The charity covers areas like Caerphilly, Monmouthshire, Newport, Torfaen, and parts of South and Mid Powys. They offer a free, all-encompassing palliative care service that really looks after the needs of patients, their families, and caregivers dealing with tough, incurable illnesses.
