Katie Howey is back at Barking and Dagenham College for a special skills day, sharing her photography journey and experiences with students.
Barking: Katie Howey is making a return to Barking and Dagenham College for their annual skills day on February 12. It’s a great chance for her to connect with students.
Her love for photography kicked off in school when she was just a kid. She would play with pens in class, watching how sunlight created shadows. It was all about those still life images for her.
But her art teachers had other ideas, pushing her towards portraits and landscapes. That really bummed her out. Thankfully, her time at Barking and Dagenham College was a game changer.
Unlike her school days, the college tutors actually asked her what she wanted to focus on. She knew right away it was still life and product photography.
That moment was huge for Katie. She eventually started her own commercial photography business and has done tons of photoshoots since then.
One of her favorites? A Wimbledon-themed shoot for Polo Ralph Lauren. She set it up in her garden, which was a bit of a jungle at the time.
To make it work, she bought real turf and laid it down over the weeds, even painted some lines to mimic a tennis court. Talk about dedication!
After graduating in 2009, she landed her first gig at a commercial studio in Shoreditch. She later worked for a media agency before launching her own studio in 2016.
Now, she’s worked with big names like Polo Ralph Lauren and Revolution Beauty. Katie lives in Chelmsford with her husband and their cat, Pixel, and she’s still snapping away!
While she can’t use the official photos for her own promotion, she did manage to grab a little snapshot for herself as a keepsake.
