Residents of Pitlochry are relieved as the council reverses parking fines after protests over new restrictions
Pitlochry: Neighbors are feeling pretty good after winning a little battle with the council over parking rules. Residents on Kennedy Place were hit with fines for parking where they’ve parked for years without any issues.
But guess what? The folks at Perth and Kinross Council have finally decided to listen and are taking away those pesky double yellow lines. Norman Hawkes, a local resident, is thrilled that the council has come to its senses.
He did wonder why they even thought to put those lines there in the first place. “We’ve managed just fine without them for 20 years,” he said, shaking his head.
The trouble started when the council decided to repaint some old road markings on Kennedy Place. Those double yellow lines were there when the ambulance station was still around, but that closed over 15 years ago.
Now, the old depot is a vet’s office, and locals feel there’s no need for parking restrictions anymore. The faded lines hadn’t been enforced for ages until a crew came in to repaint them.
“Within two days, the wardens were handing out tickets,” Norman shared. Some neighbors paid up, while others just refused to cough up the cash.
After a few complaints to local councillors, the council finally took action. They’ve agreed to remove some of those double yellow lines, but a few near the junction will stay.
This isn’t just a Pitlochry issue, either. Similar complaints have popped up in Comrie, where residents felt the wardens were being a bit too harsh. Local leaders held a meeting to discuss the situation, showing that parking woes are a common concern.
