A new crossing proposal aims to enhance safety and accessibility for pedestrians and cyclists in the Witchford area
Ely: There’s a new plan in the works for a crossing at the A10 bypass to Witchford Road. This area connects Ely and Witchford, and it’s a busy spot, especially for folks heading to the Lancaster Way Business Park.
Right now, crossing the A10 can be a bit tricky since there are no traffic signals at the existing crossings. That makes it tough for pedestrians and cyclists to get across safely.
Cambridgeshire County Council is looking to change that. They’ve kicked off a consultation to gather ideas for a new crossing that would make it safer and more inviting for people to walk, cycle, or use mobility aids.
There are a few designs on the table, including two bridge options and one with traffic signals. The goal is to create a crossing that works well for everyone.
The public consultation started on January 22 and will wrap up on March 5 at 11:59 PM. If you want to learn more, there are several events you can attend, both online and in person.
For instance, there’s an online webinar on February 4, and a drop-in event at Witchford Village College on February 11. Plus, you can check out an exhibition at Ely Library during its open hours.
All the feedback collected will help the Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Combined Authority and the County Council decide on the best option to move forward with.
Funding for this project is coming from the Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Combined Authority, while the County Council will handle the implementation.
