Whitfield: Plans for a mini housing estate have been approved again. Villagers worry it will hurt their privacy.

KLN Group Ltd wants to build up to 38 homes off Archers Court Road. Dover District Council (DDC) approved the plans in 2023. Residents are concerned about traffic on Archers Court Road.

DDC faced a potential legal challenge over the access route. However, the planning committee approved the scheme again. The new plan changes the access route. Residents will use part of the Richmond Park development to reach the A256 instead.

Cllr James Back (Con) expressed support for the new access plan. He previously voted against the application due to traffic concerns. He believes the new route is better for traffic flow.

The site will also include 11 affordable homes, one of which is for disabled use. Residents objected strongly, with 49 complaints on Dover’s planning portal.

Whitfield is set to have 6,350 new homes under the Urban Expansion plan. Jeff Goodsell, chairman of Whitfield Parish Council, voiced concerns about fitting 38 homes on the site.

Cllr Roger Knight (Con) wants to address the loss of green land in future discussions. He noted that the two-storey homes clash with nearby bungalows and could invade residents’ privacy.

At the meeting, most concerns were noted for future applications. Cllr Knight agreed with the parish council’s views. He emphasized the need for careful consideration of size and design.

DDC approved the plans unanimously, with nine votes in favor. KLN Group Ltd has been contacted for comments.
