London: So, there’s some buzz about pedicabs, or rickshaws, in the city. They’re super popular in tourist spots, but they’ve been causing a bit of a ruckus lately.

The government is stepping in with new rules to make sure these rides are safer and more regulated. It’s about time, right? Last year, they promised to tackle issues like dangerous driving and those crazy high fares.

Now, Transport for London (TfL) is getting the power to decide how many pedicabs can hit the streets and where they can go. They want to make sure everything’s safe and sound.

Londoners have been complaining about loud music and late-night disturbances from these pedicabs. TfL is even asking the public for their thoughts on the new proposals.

Some of the ideas include requiring drivers to get a special license, pass background checks, and have proper insurance. Plus, they’ll need to keep their vehicles in good shape with regular inspections.

They’re also thinking about setting noise limits, especially during the night. It’s all about keeping the peace in the city.

Right now, fares are all over the place, depending on the driver. TfL wants to change that, possibly by introducing a standard fare system based on time or distance.

Helen Chapman from TfL mentioned that pedicabs are the only unregulated public transport in London, which can lead to safety issues and those infamous rip-off fares. It’s about time they got some rules!

Will Norman, the Walking and Cycling Commissioner, added that pedicabs should be a fun way to explore London, but without regulations, some drivers are just taking advantage.
