Exciting news as Halton Council is set to approve a new housing development with a mix of affordable homes in Preston-on-the-Hill
Halton: So, there’s some buzz about a new housing development in Preston-on-the-Hill. The council is looking to give the green light to Morris Homes for a project that could bring 136 new homes to the area.
This site is a 17-acre piece of farmland, and they’re planning to build everything from cozy two-bedroom apartments to spacious four-bedroom houses. Sounds like a good mix, right?
What’s cool is that about a quarter of these homes will be affordable. This means they’ll include social housing and some properties sold at a discount through a government scheme. It’s a step towards making housing more accessible.
Now, this land used to be part of Halton’s green belt, which is meant to protect the countryside from overdevelopment. But back in 2022, the council changed its mind and re-designated it for housing. A bit of a shift, huh?
There’s also some financial backing for local green projects, thanks to the developer. They’re planning to contribute to enhancing green spaces nearby, which is a nice touch.
Of course, not everyone is thrilled. There were 43 responses during the public consultation, with 29 objections mainly about the density of the proposed estate. People are concerned it might be too crowded.
But the report says the plan actually has fewer homes than what could have been built according to the planning policy. So, they’re trying to strike a balance between development and keeping the area livable.
To tackle noise from the nearby M56, they’re also including a significant acoustic bund. That should help keep things quieter for the new residents.
Overall, the report is pretty positive about the design and layout of the homes. The committee will meet next Tuesday to make the final decision, so we’ll see what happens!
