Exciting new plans are in the works for the site of the old pub in Herne Bay, aiming to transform the area while preserving its history
The pub has been sitting empty since 2015, and honestly, it’s been a magnet for trouble. Vandals have had a field day, and it’s turned into a bit of a dump. People have been hoping for a revival, but the latest news is a bit of a twist.
Instead of restoring the pub, there are plans to put in a battery energy storage system. Yep, they want to build 12 big batteries right where the pub’s football team used to play. It’s a bit of a bummer for those hoping to see the pub brought back to life, but at least it might keep the land from becoming a housing estate.
Councillor Dan Watkins is on board with the idea, saying it’s a smart move to prevent more homes from popping up in the area. The batteries will store energy when demand is low and release it when it’s high, which sounds pretty cool.
If everything goes smoothly, they could start building soon, and it’ll take about 14 months to finish. Plus, they’ll have tanks on-site for fire safety, which is a nice touch.
Once the batteries have served their time, they’ll take them down and return the land to grass. It’s a mixed bag for the old pub, but at least something is happening in that spot. The owner hasn’t commented yet, so we’ll see how this all plays out.
