A 26-year-old from Pontypool was caught with cocaine worth £14,000 and cash during a police raid last November
Pontypool: Jack Burman, 26, was caught with a lot of cocaine. He was described as a “cog in a larger wheel.” Some say he was taken advantage of due to a learning disability.
Last November, Gwent Police raided his flat. They found 180 grams of cocaine in a kitchen cupboard. The drugs could be worth between £7,005 and £14,485.
Police also seized over £3,000 in cash. When questioned, Burman said nothing. He later pleaded guilty to possession with intent to supply cocaine and possession of amphetamine.
Burman had no previous convictions. His lawyer, Gareth Williams, mentioned that he is quite vulnerable. The judge, Recorder Benjamin Blackmore, noted Burman was part of a larger drug operation.
The judge said Burman might have been taken advantage of but still understood his actions. He emphasized that drug dealing harms communities and drains resources.
Burman was sentenced to 30 months in prison. He will also face a hearing about the proceeds of crime later this year.
