A Portadown man was caught eating Chinese food in his car while under the influence, leading to a fine and a driving ban
They got a call about a driver who seemed a bit tipsy outside a Chinese place on Brownstown Road. When the officers arrived, they saw Reid in the driver’s seat, keys in the ignition, and the radio playing while he enjoyed his meal.
Talking to him, they noticed his speech was slurred, his eyes were bloodshot, and he had that unmistakable smell of alcohol on his breath. A quick breath test revealed he had 88 microgrammes of alcohol per 100 millilitres of breath, way over the legal limit of 35 in Northern Ireland.
Reid’s lawyer explained that he had been out at a local football club before grabbing the food. He even tried to call someone to pick him up, but since the keys were in the car, he was still in the wrong.
The judge wasn’t having it, though. He decided a driving ban was necessary and hit Reid with a six-week disqualification and a £300 fine, plus a £15 levy. Quite the night out, huh?
