Residents of Marshalswick are concerned as Post Office services will soon be relocated to the Morrisons retail counter, sparking community debate.
Marshalswick: The Post Office is currently located at the back of Morrisons Daily in The Quadrant. It’s a key spot for locals needing mailing services.
Right now, they handle everything from passport applications to cash transactions and currency exchange. But soon, all that will shift to the main Morrisons counter.
People are not too happy about this change. Many have taken to social media to express their worries. One user mentioned how vital this service is for the community.
Jez Leavy, who runs a local business, called the closure a “travesty.” He pointed out that this Post Office helps a lot of small businesses and the elderly in the area.
There’s also concern about the future of the friendly store clerk who’s been a familiar face for many. A Morrisons spokesperson reassured everyone that the Post Office service will still be available, just from a different spot.
The Post Office confirmed that the move will happen on January 27, but it’s still unclear if all services will stay the same after the transition.
Interestingly, this news comes after local MP Daisy Cooper and others rallied against the franchising of another Post Office branch last November. They’re clearly passionate about keeping these services in the community.
In the end, the Post Office said that Marshalswick will remain open as usual, and customers can expect to be served at the new counter without any closures.
