A 33-year-old man faced police aggression charges after a drunken incident led to him being tasered near Welshpool
Welshpool: So, there was this guy, Rory Abbotts, who got into a bit of trouble with the police. It all went down early in the morning on December 21, 2024, near the A483. He was acting pretty wild, shouting at the officers and calling them some nasty names.
He ended up in court on January 21, where he admitted to threatening behavior. The whole thing started when the police got a call about him wandering around after a Christmas party. Apparently, he had a few too many drinks and wasn’t handling it well.
When the police showed up, he was not having it. He told them they wouldn’t arrest him and seemed ready to cause some trouble. They tried to get him to the side of the road, but he took off running towards Welshpool.
One female officer stayed back because she thought he might get violent. Eventually, they found him again, and he came at them aggressively. That’s when they had to use a taser to calm him down. He was still hurling insults at them, saying some pretty awful stuff.
In his defense, Rory said he just wanted to walk home and needed some space. He admitted he was in the wrong and apologized for his behavior, saying it was out of character for him. He felt the tasering was excessive, claiming he didn’t even have time to react before it happened.
In the end, he got fined £161 and had to pay some costs. It’s a wild story, but it sounds like he’s learned his lesson.
