First up is Louise Ross from Avoch Primary. She’s a nominee for the Highland Heroes 2025 award. Louise teaches P1 and P2 and has been a great support for one of her students.
She noticed a problem with a five-year-old and alerted his parents. It turned out he had type 1 diabetes. Louise stepped in to help him feel comfortable at school.
One nomination said, “He feels happy and confident to talk to Mrs. Ross. She reassures him daily. She goes above and beyond, and we’re so grateful.”
Louise has been teaching for 12 years and loves nurturing her students. She was thrilled to be nominated, saying it’s a privilege.
Next is Muriel Murray from Lochardil Primary in Inverness. She’s recently retired but was recognized for her dedication to her students and community.
Muriel was praised for her creativity in involving kids in community projects. She helped the school earn Eco Schools and UNICEF awards.
One nomination called her an inspiration and a role model. Muriel has been teaching for 37 years and loves teamwork with her colleagues and families.
She was surprised to be shortlisted and felt humbled by the nomination.
Then we have Angela McGoran from Duncan Forbes Primary in Inverness. She’s the acting deputy head and has made a big impact on her students and their families.
Angela supports struggling kids and ensures the school is a happy place. One nomination said, “She changes lives, not just for the kids but for parents too.”
She’s been teaching for 10 years and believes in the importance of community and well-being for her students.
Elaine Maciver from Drummond School in Inverness is another nominee. She teaches kids with additional support needs and has even saved a child’s life during a seizure.
Elaine has been at Drummond since 2009 and loves being part of the students’ journeys. She feels they’re like family.
Finally, Culloden Cars is sponsoring the Primary Teacher of the Year award. CEO Craig Walker expressed excitement about supporting Highland Heroes 2025.
He believes teachers are superheroes shaping the future. He encourages everyone to vote for their favorite teachers!
