Isabel Oliver has been appointed as the new chief medical officer for Wales, succeeding Dr. Frank Atherton next month
Cardiff: Big news for Wales! Professor Isabel Oliver is stepping in as the new chief medical officer. She’ll take over from Dr. Frank Atherton, who’s been in the role for over eight years.
Isabel is currently with the UK Health Security Agency, where she’s been doing some impressive work. She’s got a solid background in public health, starting her career in hospitals before moving into this field.
She’s also held key positions at Public Health England and is involved with research at the University of Bristol. Isabel is really looking forward to her new role, saying it’s an honor to work with health professionals across Wales.
She’s aware of the challenges ahead, like an aging population and climate change, but she’s ready to tackle them. The Welsh health secretary, Jeremy Miles, believes she’ll bring a lot of valuable experience to the table.
It’s an exciting time for health in Wales, and Isabel seems like the right person to lead the charge!
