A protest in Glasgow will demand action against Spain’s hunting dog crisis
Glasgow: A march is happening at Glasgow Green on Saturday, February 1. It starts at 10:30 AM. Hundreds of people and their dogs are expected to join in.
This protest, called No To Hunting With Dogs In Spain, is part of a larger movement. Similar marches are happening across the UK and Europe. They aim to push for political action to end the hunting dog crisis in Spain.
February 1 marks the end of Spain’s hunting season. Many dogs that are unfit for hunting face abandonment or worse. In 2023, Spain’s Parliament left hunting dogs out of new animal welfare laws.
In response, Free Spanish Hounds was formed in the UK. They want to raise awareness and support the Spanish group Plataforma NAC. They aim to highlight the issue and encourage protests against these practices.
Teresa Rodriguez, who organizes protests for NAC, said they want to raise global awareness. They hope this will create diplomatic pressure on Spain’s government. Previous protests have led to calls for action from European politicians.
Despite growing awareness, many Spanish politicians still prioritize tradition over animal welfare. With international support, they are committed to driving change for better protection of these dogs.
Adva Shimshy, a founder of Free Spanish Hounds, emphasized their mission. They will keep protesting until the Spanish government takes action to protect these dogs from cruelty.
