Animal rights activists protested in Sainsbury’s, raising awareness about animal cruelty linked to the RSPCA Assured Scheme.
Portswood: A group of seven activists made quite a scene at Sainsbury’s. They sat on the floor for over an hour, holding signs about animal cruelty.
These protestors from Animal Rising wanted to shine a light on what they call the “ongoing scandal” of the RSPCA Assured Scheme.
In a TikTok video, you can see shoppers trying to navigate through the crowd, some looking pretty frustrated.
One guy even tried to push his trolley past a protestor who was blocking the way. It was a bit chaotic!
Eventually, a store manager, a security guard, and even the police showed up to see what was going on.
People were really fired up, and the activists stood their ground despite the tension. A spokesperson for Animal Rising explained why they chose Sainsbury’s for their protest.
They pointed out that Sainsbury’s is a major seller of RSPCA Assured products and accused them of being complicit in animal mistreatment.
They argued that there’s no way to humanely farm animals, which is a pretty bold statement.
The protest kicked off around 12:30 PM on Saturday, January 18, and wrapped up by 1:45 PM.
Police were on hand, but they said everything was under control and didn’t require further action.
