Oxford is seeing some changes with new student accommodation and road updates. Here’s what you need to know about the latest public notices
Oxford: There are some updates on public notices that might interest you. First off, Cherwell College is expanding its boarding house at Osney Lane. They’re adding two more floors to Cherwell House, which means 26 new student rooms and two one-bedroom flats for staff.
To make way for construction, a few parking bays on Osney Lane will be suspended starting February 3. This is to help construction vehicles get in and out easily. The work is expected to wrap up by November 28, 2025, so keep an eye out for signs about the parking restrictions.
Also, St Michael Street is closed to traffic for some surface leveling work. This closure started on January 6 and should be done by April 4, 2025. Just a heads up, no vehicles can go through that section, but cyclists and pedestrians can still get through.
On another note, Mr. Tamanpreet Singh has applied for a premises license at Baweja Superstore on Abingdon Road. If approved, they’ll be able to sell alcohol from 7 AM to 11 PM on weekdays and until midnight on weekends. If you have any thoughts on this, make sure to send them in by January 28.
Lastly, there’s a parking suspension on Bevington Road starting January 20. This is an extension of a previous order due to some refurbishment work. The suspension will last until December 2025, so plan accordingly if you usually park there.
Oh, and Oxford United is looking to build a new stadium with a capacity of 16,000 near Kidlington. They submitted their proposals to Cherwell District Council back in February 2024. If you want to weigh in on this, you can do so by February 8.
