A local business owner is calling on residents to explore Bournemouth and support its remaining shops and cafes after recent closures
She mentioned a customer who likened Bournemouth to Philadelphia, which has a much larger population. But Jennifer pointed out that while Philly has its attractions, Bournemouth boasts stunning beaches that can’t be beaten.
However, she noted that the average tourist spends significantly less in Bournemouth compared to Philadelphia. It’s mostly just enough for parking and a snack.
Jennifer also addressed concerns about crime, saying that claims of violence in Bournemouth are often exaggerated. In fact, the area has less violent crime per person than several other cities in England.
On the topic of drug issues, she acknowledged that there’s more visible drug dealing, but that’s partly because fewer people are around to notice.
What she really wants is for locals to visit their own town more often. She encouraged everyone to change up their routine, take a bus into town, enjoy the beautiful gardens, grab a coffee at an independent café, and explore local shops.
“It’s your town, get to know it better,” she said.
Dr. Jeff Bray from Bournemouth University also shared his thoughts, saying the town center is set to become more vibrant with a focus on housing and leisure activities.
