Residents of the Malvern tower block are meeting with officials to address rising anti-social behavior from local youths.
The Malvern tower is part of a big £575 million regeneration project. It will eventually be demolished. But for now, residents are stuck dealing with ongoing issues. They’ve seen a rise in anti-social behavior while they wait for changes.
Last year, Essex Police tried to crack down on drug dealers. But now, groups of youths are getting into the tower blocks and causing chaos. Mike Smith, a resident, shared his concerns about the troublemakers. He mentioned gangs of kids running around and making noise.
Some of these kids might live there, but many don’t. They find ways to get in, either by buzzing someone or following others inside. They bang on doors and create a nuisance for everyone.
The police are aware of the situation. They’ve been trying to identify the troublemakers. Last year, they also dealt with issues like street drinking and drug use in the area. They’ve banned 80 troublemakers from entering the tower blocks.
Margaret Borton, a local councillor, noted an increase in anti-social behavior. She emphasized that they take residents’ concerns seriously. The meeting is a chance for residents to voice their worries.
A police spokesman confirmed they would attend the meeting. They mentioned that while there haven’t been major incidents, some youth behavior has been raised in community meetings. They plan to continue patrols in the area.
Bayo Alaba, the local MP, is committed to addressing these issues. He wants to work with residents and officials to ensure safety. He’s held several street meetings to listen to concerns and find solutions.
