Andy Hornsby from Redcar had a lucky New Year’s Eve, winning big in the EuroMillions draw
Redcar: Andy Hornsby, a 56-year-old NHS worker, had a hunch about the EuroMillions draw on December 31. So, he popped into Asda and bought two tickets. Little did he know, this decision would change his life.
Just before midnight, while his partner was out of the room, he checked the tickets. To his shock, he discovered he was now a millionaire! Can you imagine the excitement?
Andy shared, “I’ve had some wild New Year’s Eves, but this one takes the cake! I was about to grab drinks when I decided to check my tickets.”
He thought he saw a match but wasn’t sure without his glasses. So, he handed the ticket to his stepdaughter, who scanned it. When the £1 million win popped up, they couldn’t stop laughing!
When his partner walked in, she thought she missed the countdown. Instead of a “Happy New Year,” Andy exclaimed, “I think we’re millionaires!” She thought he was joking!
The rest of the night was a blur. They kept checking the ticket, laughing in disbelief. Andy joked that his partner was worried he’d blow the money at B&M!
On New Year’s Day, he called the National Lottery to confirm his win. Even then, it felt unreal. He couldn’t believe that a £2.50 ticket had made him a millionaire.
Andy quickly shared the news with his coworkers, sending them a screenshot of his win. The next day at work was filled with congratulations and playful banter, making it all feel real.
He usually doesn’t play EuroMillions, but that day, his gut feeling led him to buy those tickets. He said, “I normally wouldn’t spend £5, but something told me to go for it.”
Now, Andy and his fiancée, Mandy, are planning their future. After years of renting, they’ve found their dream home—a bungalow in North Yorkshire—and even got engaged last year.
They’re set to marry in May, starting their life together mortgage-free. Plus, Andy bought a VW Campervan for weekend adventures with their dog, Bella.
He loves his job as a medical delivery driver and plans to keep working. Mandy, however, has quit her job to enjoy more flexibility for trips and holidays.
Andy’s excited about the freedom this win brings. He’s ready to enjoy life in their new home and explore the UK together.
