Southport: Recently, MPs from Reform UK have sparked a big conversation about the death penalty. This comes after a young man, Axel Rudakubana, was sentenced for a horrific crime where he killed three girls at a dance class.

He’s now facing life in prison, with a minimum of 52 years. The judge couldn’t give him a whole life order since he was just 17 during the attack. He turned 18 only days later.

Local MP Patrick Hurley thinks the sentence isn’t tough enough. He’s even asked the Attorney General to take another look at it, saying it feels “unduly lenient.”

The Attorney General’s Office is on it, and they have 28 days to decide if they’ll send the case to the Court of Appeal. Meanwhile, Richard Tice, the deputy leader of Reform UK, is calling for a national discussion about the death penalty.

He believes it’s important to talk about big issues like this, and many people might want to join the conversation. The last time the death penalty was used in the UK was back in 1964.

Another MP, Rupert Lowe, echoed Tice’s call, saying it’s time to discuss capital punishment in special cases. Lee Anderson even shared a picture of a noose on social media, making his stance clear.

Party leader Nigel Farage is also pushing for accountability, calling for the resignation of the director of public prosecutions. He feels the public deserves to trust the legal system, especially after such a shocking incident.

Prime Minister Keir Starmer labeled the killer a “vile offender” and expressed his sympathy for the victims’ families. He emphasized that the nation stands with them during this tough time.

Lib Dem leader Ed Davey added that no punishment could ever feel sufficient for the pain the families are enduring. He stressed the need for the government to learn from this tragedy to prevent it from happening again.
