Carmarthen: Repair Café Wales has fixed over 21,000 items. This helps people save money and reduce waste.

The initiative encourages repairing instead of replacing items during ‘Fix-it February’ and beyond. They aim to fix 1,000 items this month. This saves as much carbon as taking a car off the road for 360,000 miles.

People can bring broken items to a repair café. Volunteers help fix them for free. This includes electronics, clothing, furniture, and household appliances.

The Welsh Government’s Circular Economy Fund supports Repair Café Wales. They have expanded to over 140 repair cafés across the country.

Huw Irranca-Davies, Deputy First Minister for Climate Change, visited a café in Carmarthen. He brought a damaged cycling glove, which a volunteer repaired.

He noted the success of Repair Café Wales shows what communities can achieve together. With 1,000 dedicated volunteers each month, these cafés help the climate and save money.

Phoebe Brown, director of Repair Café Wales, expressed pride in their achievement. She highlighted that fixing items for free can significantly save local families money.

Repair cafés help tackle the ‘throwaway culture’ by encouraging people to make the most of what they have.
